help pave the way to better preventive measures, treatment strategies, and health outcomes.
The Department of Research & Evaluation is the hub of research for Kaiser Permanente Southern California. The process typically starts by finding an investigator
who will lead the study at Kaiser Permanente Southern California.
- Faculty members can lead a variety of different types of studies, from interventions to observational
safety studies. Industry sponsorships have supported a wide range of studies, from primary medication adherence to vaccine safety and effectiveness.

The Research Business & Contracts Operations
team manages all contracts for faculty members here as
well as medical center-based investigators. This ensures that all contracts comply with institutional requirements as well as federal and state regulations.
The department’s faculty includes more than two dozen full-time research scientists as well as a small group of post-doctoral fellows and associate investigators.
