Sara Y. Tartof, PhD, MPH

Dr. Sara Tartof is an infectious disease epidemiologist who studies COVID-19, antimicrobial resistance, hospital infections, urinary tract infections, vaccine safety and effectiveness, and tuberculosis, among other areas. She has extensive experience leading and collaborating on single- and multi-site studies and collaborates extensively with state and local health departments. She is primary supervisor for CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service fellows and is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Systems Science of the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine.

Dr. Tartof is highly accomplished in the design and implementation of studies analyzing data derived from electronic medical records. She is a principal investigator on several federally funded studies. These include large multi-site studies evaluating the impact of California Senate Bill 27 on antibiotic-resistant infections and opportunities to improve screening and treatment for latent tuberculosis. She is also a principal investigator on several grants investigating COVID-19, antibiotic-resistant hospital infections, urinary tract infections, hepatitis B virus, pneumococcal infections, and other topics.
